Wage garnishment percentages:
  • Up to 25%, if not child support or spousal support related.
  • If child support or spousal support related but you support other children and a spouse at the current time - 50%.
  • If child support or spousal support related but you support other children and a spouse at the current time AND owe back support in arrears of 12 weeks - 55%.
  •             
  • If child support or spousal support related and you do not support other children and a spouse at the current time - 60%.
  • If child support or spousal support related and you do not support other children and a spouse at the current time AND owe back support in arrears of 12 weeks - 65%.

  • Wage garnishment exemption calculation: A wage earner must keep 30 times the current minimum wage ($7.25) before any wages can be garnished. This means that the first $217.50 of their wage is exempt from garnishment.

    The Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor, enforces Title III of the Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA), which provides some exemptions to wage garnishment. In addition, this law protects you from being fired for one wage garnishment. In cases, where multiple wage garnishments are in effect, there is no such protection.
