Active Military Wage Garnishment

Wage garnishment can take a substantial part of your income. In some cases, up to 65% of your wages can be garnished! Title III of the Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA) protects you from being fired by your employer, if your wages are garnished. It also sets rules on how much of your wages can be garnished. The wages of active, reserve and retired military members can be garnished to pay for alimony (spousal support) or child support. A garnishment order must be served through the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), based in Cleveland, in order for the order to be active.
